This is an easy starter recipe which makes a great bite before any kind of main meal. Parma ham and melon are wonderful together. The delicate texture and saltiness of the parma ham is the perfect contrast to the juicy sweetness of the melon. No wonder this is such a classic starter recipe.

You only need 2 ingredients to make it so this is a good dish for any home chef to work on, even a total beginner. If you can make a cup of tea, you can make this.
Parma ham is good but you can use prosciutto if you prefer. Bacon would be too thick and it would be rigid too since you need to cook it, so it will no 'drape' and draping is the effect desired here, so forget it and still to the parma ham or prosciutto. Either of those Italian meats would be very nice. Cantaloupe looks great because it is bright orange but Honeydew melon would also work or another kind. Just ensure it is nice and ripe.
1 melon, quartered & de-seeded
4 slices Parma ham
Freshly ground black pepper
Drape the ham over the melon and add the pepper.

Ensure the melon is perfectly ripe, the wedges are neatly cut and equal size, and you peel the thin slices of ham apart properly, for a nice look. Feel free to garnish the plate however you wish, adding black grapes, parsley or anything else you want to use on there to enhance the visual appeal of the dish. This recipe is best served as soon as you have made it, but since it can be made in 5 minutes that should not present a problem. Have the melon slightly chilled and the ham at room temperature.
